Server Room Temperature

Replacing old computer equipment can introduce a new set of problems. All new servers and workstations run faster and often run hotter as well, increasing the burden on office air conditioning systems. If you've recently introduced new servers, it might be time to review your air conditioning equipment.

Most major hardware manufactures suggest that you should keep your server room between the following temperature ranges and not go below 10°C (50°F) or above 28°C (82°F). Although this seems a wide range these are the extremes and it is far more common to keep the ambient temperature around 20-21°C (68-71°F). If the equipment is not kept within these ranges the hardware can be damaged and cause long term problems.

We can provide server room temperature monitoring software that can e-mail or send you a SMS message to your phone, which can provide you with the correct server room alerts.
