Office 365 / Hosted data ruling from the US Government
Last month, the US Government won a legal battle against Microsoft, which forces them to hand over any requested email data held within their Dublin datacentre.
This effectively renders the EU Safe Harbour Framework obsolete – leaving any sensitive end user data and intellectual property open and potentially unprotected by UK or EU law.
The ruling will have a significant impact, not only on existing customers of Microsoft’sOffice 365 platform (and other US company owned hosted services, held outside of the US), but also to organisations who are currently reviewing the adoption of cloud services, such as (amongst others):
Microsoft Office 365
